Superplasticizers, also known as water reducers, it is primarily used for their water reducing capacity, improve the flowability and workability of concrete while maintaining or enhancing its strength. Superplasticizers are usually added to concrete mixes to increase the slump (consistency) of the concrete without adding more water. This allows for easier placement and finishing of the concrete. Superplasticizers work by dispersing cement particles in concrete, reducing the surface tension between them and allowing for greater mobility of the material. The use of superplasticizers can lead to higher quality, more durable concrete, and can help reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects by reducing the amount of water and cement needed.
The main advantage of adding superplasticizer to concrete is improved workability without compromising strength or durability. Thus, with the addition of superplasticizer, concrete can be poured more easily and finished quickly, saving time and increasing productivity at job sites. The reduction of water in concrete due to adding superplasticizer also enhances its compressive and flexural strength, making it denser, more durable, and resistant to weather and chemical erosion. Superplasticizers also enable concrete mixes to be flowable, which helps in the construction of complex structures such as columns, beams, or precast elements, resulting in achieving precise shapes with fewer voids. Overall, adding superplasticizer to concrete has several benefits that improve the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of construction projects.
1. Slump Loss:
The slump loss of the mixture of naphthalene superplasticizer is faster than polycarboxylate superplasticizer.
2. Workability & Fluidity:
The concrete workability of polycarboxylate superplasticizer is better. But in terms of fluidity, it is weaker than naphthalene superplasticizer.
3. Adaptability:
The adaptability of naphthalene superplasticizer is stronger than that of polycarboxylate superplasticizer.
4. Water Reducing Rate:
The water reducing rate of PCE is usually 25-35%, and the water reducing rate of SNF is usually 15-30%.
5. Air Content:
The air content of the mixture of polycarboxylate superplasticizer is usually larger than that of naphthalene superplasticizer, and the pore size of the bubbles is also larger.
